Description : Reporting to the Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs, the External Liaison Officer, in accordance with the College Mission Statement and the College Strategic Plan, is responsible for high school visits and liaises with high school guidance counsellors and also offers communications support and assistance for events and activities.
More specifically, but not limited to, the Officer, in matters related to
External Organizations and Populations:
- Liaises with external organizations associated with Vanier as well as external bodies;
- Participates and supports off campus and on campus events as required, as well as in-college activities and events concerned with external liaison;
- Attends or hosts events involving populations or groups of interest to Vanier College, or who have expressed an interest in Vanier College;
- Develops and prepares event/activity related material such as nametags, signage, program booklets, menus, maps, certificates, guides and the like;
College Promotional Material:
- Oversees use and maintenance of promotional items, resources and physical structures necessary for liaison activities;
- Distributes college promotional material as required. Maintains inventory of such;
- Revises and edits the materials used in liaison (French and English);
- Works in collaboration with Communications Officer in evaluation of college promotional material;
- Records and edits video presentations related to different college activities and events that are subsequently broadcast on VTV via different college platforms including Vanier web-site and social-media sites;
- Collaborates with the communications team on social media strategy involving Facebook and Twitter for new communication tools;
- Responds to production and event coverage requests from teachers and staff;
Other Vanier Communications Activities
- Collaborates with Vanier Communications personnel on the full gamut of activities, events and projects undertaken by Vanier Communications;
- Liaises and works closely with staff of all College departments and with vendors and consultants such as photographers, designers, audio-visual specialists, and printers;
- Responds to requests from visitors and members of the public concerning Vanier College;
- Keeps the college community informed on external populations and environment, target /niche audience trends and associated marketing activities;
Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.
Schedule: Monday to Friday with flexible schedule between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. according to event schedules (35 hours per week).
Evening and weekend work with commensurate overtime probable as per schedule of events and meetings.

Qualifications:
- DEC in appropriate field or equivalent.
- Conditions related to the specific position:
- Knowledge of the Cégep system, secondary and post-secondary education and Vanier College;
- Excellent English and French written and oral competencies (to be tested);
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word (to be tested);
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Publisher (to be tested);
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Experience with video and image editing software such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, AfterEffects and Wordpress;
- Ability to use SLR and video cameras;
- Available outside normal working hours in order to attend certain college activities that must be reported on;
- Must have access to a vehicle (This position involves solo visits to educational institutions in Montreal and off-island, usually by automobile, including presentations involving lifting, carrying, and installation of displays and exhibit materials).
