    Summary:
    St. Joseph Media is Canada's third largest magazine publisher with brands including award-winning titles such as Toronto Life, FASHION, Weddingbells, MARIAGE Québec, Where Canada magazines, Canadian Family and Quill & Quire. St. Joseph Media has been awarded the contract to publish Shoppers Drug Mart magazines, Glow and Pure (French).

    St. Joseph Media is now looking for a collaborative Bilingual Designer who can execute the direction and vision for Pure Magazine as lead by the Art Director located in the Toronto office. The successful candidate will have experience marrying editorial and art design and have a demonstrated interest in beauty and fashion. This individual will be based in the Quebec market and should have experience working with a remote team and is

    Responsibilities:
    • Creating and executing fresh and exciting layouts for the magazine
    • Brainstorming with the art and edit team in conceptualizing vibrant editorial photography
    • Integrating and maintaining the look and feel of the publication
    • Working with the Editors and Art Department to develop strategies and solutions for stories and packages
    • Verify the status of images for the magazine, check proofs for color, liaise with retouchers to ensure quality control
    • Strong photo editing and research skills
    • Ensure all layouts are clean, pre-flighted and well-prepared for pre-press
    • Coordinating workflow with all departments
    • Some Photoshop work: clipping paths, color correction and image retouching.

    The ideal candidate will have:
    • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Applied Arts or Graphic Design
    • 3+ years previous and relevant design experience (print preferred)
    • Fully bilingual in both written and spoken French
    • First-rate knowledge of Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and other Mac design programs
    • Interest and awareness of digital and social media applications and platforms
    • Attention to detail and consistency throughout the magazine
    • Ability to multi task, extremely organized
    • Previous editorial experience
    • Strong problem-solving skills
    • High-level understanding of typography
    • Experience producing and directing photo shoots an asset
    • A passion for beauty and fashion and a knowledge of current trends in magazine design
    • Able to work independently and with remote direction from an “off-site” Art Director
